Shape Of Water Movie review

The Shape Of Water caught my attention back in the summer when I wrote an article covering trailers shown at San Diego Comic Con.   http://amerimemedia.blogspot.com/2017/08/movie-trailers-from-comic-con-by-corey.htm I was very excited to see this film. One, it’s a Guillermo Del Toro film, and two, I thought it was a orIgin story for ABE SAPIEN from the Hellboy franchise. The likeness is uncanny



  and the same actor is playing both roles. This movie had a lot of layers to it. This was a love story & spy thriller written by Del Toro &  Vanessa Taylor. I had to travel far and wide to see this film. It came off like a new creature of the black lagoon.  Which reminds me that he was the offered the job of directing “Creature of the Black lagoon “ for the Dark Universe franchise but declined to do this instead. Smart choice indeed.  The human characters represent the outcasts of early 1960s society.  Elisa Esposito (played by Sally Hawkins)

is mute from a childhood trauma  she is the disabled outcast.  Giles played by Richard Jenkins is a gay man who was fired from his job for coming out which is what a gather from the film


 Then we have Academy award winning Octavia  Spencer as Zelda Fuller as a black women working on the cleaning staff with Elisa.

With that being said we have the the bad guy Richard Strickland played by Michael Shannon.  He represents everything wrong with America then and now to be frank.  He a military man with a one track mind and no vision or humanity.  It's so easy to hate him in a lot of his roles.

  

Of course we have to mention the creature of this feature.

Only called Amphibian man in the credits he is played by Doug Jones. Doug Jones who most of you know played Abe Sapien !!  


But there was a very different approach to this character than Abe. The creature I find is a lot more primal in this film , where as Abe in Hellboy is the most human. Both performances are great in their own way but in shape of water there a factor. He does not speak he roars and makes hand gestures and learns a little ASL from Elise. I will not give away what happens in this film because I feel I would be stealing a great experience from you and I will not do that. But honestly I love this film I wish to see it again. I hope that there is a Oscar out there with Del Toro's names on it.

The new 8 Bit Heroes (Movie Review)

I really enjoy watching documentaries and docufilms, and if you couple that with the old school nostalgia of 8 bit video games, you've placed me directly in heaven. The virtual pearly gates opened up for my team and I when Joe Granato sent us a link to his movie "The New 8bit Heroes," and asked us if we could review it for PAX SOUTH.

As fate would have it, mother nature covered Philadelphia in a mountain of snow (about three inches lol) so my team and I brought out the hot chocolate and snacks, bundled up with blankets, and had ourselves a movie day.

NOW WE'RE GOING TO GO BACK,  WAY BACK, BACK INTO TIME! 

The New 8 Bit Heroes is a story not driven by corporate greed, but childhood wonder and imagination. As children we have big fanciful dreams that we often abandon as adults. Thankfully this didn't happen to Joe. On a trip to his childhood home he found illustrations and game concepts that he made for NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) when he was nine. He contacted his childhoid friend and left a lucritive career to make this dream a reality. How fucking awesome is that?

This movie takes you on journey literally. This film will have you in Georgia at Dragoncon, then wisk you to Burbank California to the set of ABC's hit series "The Goldbergs" to chat with the creater Adam Goldberg himself! I was jazzed when they introduced one of my favorite creators on youtube, The Angry Video Game Nerd.

This film is an adventure disguised as a documentary. Your heroes want to go on a mission but first they must assemble a crew, find resources, and go against great obstacles. The amount of work and passion poured into this project will have you on an emotional rollercoaster. You despair at their setbacks and rejoice at

their victories.

We give it 5 stars and we can't wait to play.

Top 9 masks in Anime

Kidd Bandit and I were sitting around the the other day talking about anime & stuff while she was working on a mask. We began to ponder who has the best mask in anime. So, after talking about it like adults, and screaming at each other like toddlers...

we came up with the top nine masks. Of course this is only our opinion, feel free to comment with your two cents. We are only covering masks in the world of anime or manga, masks in any other genre will be saved for another day.

10. Seiko Kimura - Danganronpa

   

at the bottom of our list is the most simple mask, but the same cannot be said for the character. She wears her fashionable flu mask to hide her braces. As the “Ultimate Pharmacist” she uses pills to power herself up. Sadly she doesn’t survive the show, but her look was noteworthy nonetheless .

9. Lorenzo Cuticle Detective Inaba    

This face is something, it can be as scary as it is cute. Lorenzo is an assistant with Don Valentino who is very protective over the boss. It reminds me of the scarecrow from batman but just not as scary.

8. Rin Onigawara Armed  Girls Machiavellism

 

She rocks a very unique Oni mask. This master sword wielder of the supreme 5 swords is a merciless fighter that makes kids quit school and look cool while doing it.

7. Rider- Carnival Phantasm

This character is a very big fan favorite of the series. Me and Banditt went back and forth because I wanted to call her Medusa (because that’s who she is) Banditt disagreed, very colorfully. lol She rocks a very mysterious mask that looks more like a trap for your face. It’s very odd but provocative look.

5  Adam  Taurus  RWBY  

I love this guy’s mask! RWBY is a fun series. His mask design is a blend of Bleach & Naruto. I’ve only seen him once, but I can’t forget that sleek style.

4. Chaser John Doe - Yumekui Merry  

This very creepy character rocks what I can only call a Cat demon skull for a mask. He considers himself an ally of truth, so he holds no footing as a good guy or bad. We're not even sure if he’s  human to be honest, but that mask is something you can’t forget.

3. Killer - One Piece

I love this Pirates Mask. It’s the mask of a man with a 200,000,000 million bounty on his head. His full face mask and what appears to be a headphone design is pretty badass. It also reminds me of a certain member of a music group  

Tobi - Naruto

Probably one of the most misunderstood characters in the series, however, his mask is as cool as his exits. Pumpkin colored with one eye-hole for a long time he was shrouded in mystery. His mask didn’t incite fear but his actions did, which makes him our number two.

Kaneki - Tokyo Ghoul

YES !! I guess a lot of you thought this would be number one. Kaneki the one- eyed ghoul. Hands down one of the creepiest protagonists in a anime series in a long time. His mask looks like it was conceived by a leather gimp mask and the wrestler Mankind’s mask. With it’s lip-less face and large gnashing teeth, his mask is disturbingly cool and it's not even its final form.  

There are too many honorable mentions, so maybe next time we will just do another list in the future. Banditt and I had a lot of fun arguing, I mean, making this one.
