Get Out... Go See (spoiler free movie review)

By Corey Floyd

 ________________________________________

Hey guys just in case you don’t know. Get Out is the #1 movie in America. Written and Directed by Jordan Peele yes from Key & Peele the hit show from comedy central. He is making his directorial debut with this horror film was unexpected. When the trailer originally dropped months ago, it had the internet in a headlock and now we don’t want it to let go. Chris Washington and his Girlfriend have been seeing each other for quite some time. Now he is going to meet her parents for the first time. She has never told her folks that he is black because she doesn’t think it’s a big deal. As they get to the house and meet the parents everything seems fine. But as he meets the help and the other residents of the neighborhood he realizes there a dark side to this suburb. Now i will not go into details because it would be a crime against film to do it. This an all-round enjoyable film no matter what race you are. It takes the comedy from “Guess who’s coming to dinner?” and puts it on a Crazy rollercoaster to hell and back. After that abysmal failure of “XX” Earlier last week this a breath of fresh air for the Horror genre and all from the mind of a comedian no less. Please go out to see “GET OUT” GRADE A+

XX movie review (Spoilers)

By Corey Floyd

Title: horizontal line

Hey, guys if you remember some time ago I told you guys about as an upcoming movie that was an anthology series where female directors directed all the stories. The trailer looked very promising. It came out in limited release but I was determined to check it out.  I don’t know how to put this but this was not a good start for the year.
I Honestly feel bad about doing this but they gave me no choice. Over the last few years we have been hit up by anthology horror movies and so far, it has not been bad VHS, Tales of Halloween, Christmas Horror Story, and things have been good. So I thought I would get more of the same or maybe a lil extra since one of the directors has some good movies under her belt.
Karyn Kasuma most known for directing Jennifer's Body did a good job with her contribution “Her only living son” which was about her troubled son who is fighting his inner demons while wondering about his biological father. When he turns 18 he realizes that his father is the Devil the actual Devil and he appears and the room gets darks it's the only good story in the film. One is a comedy about a wife hiding her dead husband. Who she didn’t even kill it was an accidental overdose. She spends the rest of the piece trying to hide the body and it's comical than suspenseful and she decides to pay off the entertainment guy to give her his panda suit so she can prop him up in a chair during the party. It’s not scary it’s not even funny.
Then there was a piece about a road trip that made a pit stop on Native American land that turned one of them into a bloodthirsty creature. I’ve seen more creativity In an episode of Goosebumps. The actors in each piece did a good job the effects work was solid nothing to call home about but the storytelling is what killed it for me. The only thing this movie is good for is killing time.

Resident Evil 7 (spoiler free)

By Corey Floyd

A while back when they announced another Installment to the Resident Evil franchise I was very skeptic. The Last two installments were more along the lines of action games than the survival horror I had grown to love ……. and fear. But then I saw the first trailer and it creeped me the hell out. Who are these people? Where are we? What the Hell is that thing. Needless to say, I was had my $$ ready to surrender to Capcom. You play as Ethan Winters a troubled man on the search for his wife who has been missing for 3 years. His big problem: The Baker Family a group of folks that have contracted an another variation of the virus giving them special properties. I don’t wanna give them away but the main one is everyone is very hard to kill. One of the big changes in the game is it’s all done FPS (first person shooter style) which is a brings the horror and action in your face. Btw I also played this on the PS4 headset and after ten minutes I could not deal it’s not for the faint of heart. Also, the setting of this game is scaled back a lot. You are on a Plantation in the bayou of Louisiana and to bring it back to its root there’s a huge mansion full of secrets. The game is about ten hours long your first time around because the puzzles you come across are a bit confusing and the penalty for getting them wrong is usually death. This game is very detail oriented and they have an interesting story to tell that’s why this is spoiler free. In my opinion, the replay value is extremely high, especially because there are 2 different endings!! The game's tagline is “Welcome Home” my response is feel good to back home cause this was great.

Who needs A reboot? Part 1

Amerime Media

By Corey Floyd

Reboots there’s been a lot of them, right? Spider-Man has been rebooted 3 times in fifteen years each one an improvement. On the other hand, we had Fantastic Four which wasn’t terrible, it was good enough to get a sequel that was just awful. It was rebooted into the worst film of 2015 it was a failure on several fronts. It would be a stretch to even call it watchable.  With the Power Rangers reboot coming our way there are a few movies.  I think should have a proper facelift.

Tank Girl you’re up first! A British comic book that started in 1988 about a post-apocalyptic world where water is so rare is used as currency there's a heroine named Rebecca who becomes a fighter against the evil corporation holding the world’s water for power and she drives a crazy looking tank. It was adapted for film in 1995. It was a disaster only grossing a little over five million with a budget of 25 million. Now that we are living in a time where female comic book characters need to come in all shapes and sizes I feel like this would be a great addition to the times. Plus, with the comics vulgarity and violence, we could be looking at a female response to Deadpool.  I’m not sure but director  George Miller could do. Actress wise this is gonna sound weird or at least it does to me but it’s between Miley Cyrus, Yolandi from Die Antwood (Chappie) or Kate McKinnon (SNL).

Second Robocop. I know they did that already. But did they? That was something but it was not Robocop. I’m not sure what that was.  But it was not a Sci-Fi action. It was a political drama with action. What the hell was Samuel Jackson wearing on his head! If you really think about it every movie post Pulp Fiction if he has a hairpiece the movie is odd and hard to watch Formula 51, Jumper, The Man, Robocop. I think they need to start back to the basics just update the material. Bring back the weird commercials that are so close to being accurate it’s scary, practical effects (mainly blood splatters) bring that back keep it rated R don’t water it down. I have no idea for actors but I would have Tim Miller direct.

This will be part of a series of blogs I will drop throughout the year so if you have an idea for a reboot drop us a line.
